A Foundation Built in Tampa, Florida
Leader Tech’s story began in 1984 in Tampa, Florida, with a clear mission: to provide effective shielding products that protected sensitive electronics from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI). At that time, our capabilities were small but determined—we offered just two product lines, Beryllium Copper Finger Stock and Circuit Board Shielding (CBS). Those products set the tone for what Leader Tech would become: a company that solves real-world challenges for engineers and manufacturers while building every product with precision, reliability, and care.
From the very beginning, we have been a U.S.-based company, committed to designing and producing our products domestically. That choice wasn’t just about geography—it was about quality, customer service, and ensuring our clients could depend on us for long-term support. Being headquartered and producing in Tampa gave us control over every step of the process, which continues to this day.
Growth and Expansion Through the Years
What began as two product lines has steadily grown into a comprehensive portfolio of 14 product lines. This expansion wasn’t just about quantity—it was about listening to the needs of engineers and industries that were rapidly evolving.
Over the years, we added:
- Ferrites to suppress high-frequency noise in cables and devices.
- Slot-Lok board-level shields that provide flexible, low-cost shielding solutions without requiring expensive tooling.
- Custom metal fabrication that allows engineers to get specialized components precisely tailored to their applications.
- Additional innovations such as elastomer gaskets, thermal products, and conductive foams, which gave customers a wider range of options to tackle EMI and RFI challenges.
Today, with 14 distinct product lines, Leader Tech has become a one-stop resource for engineers who need shielding and thermal solutions that balance performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
A Growing Team and Stronger Capabilities
Our growth has not only been measured in product lines but also in people. In 1999, Leader Tech had 66 team members working to serve customers around the country. Now, we are proud to have nearly 140 employees—more than doubling our workforce.
Each of these team members contributes to the same core values that defined our company in 1984: dedication to quality, customer satisfaction, and innovation. This steady growth in human talent has also allowed us to expand our in-house capabilities, meaning we can respond faster, take on more complex projects, and continue to support both standard and custom product requests.
Navigating Supply Chain and Tariff Challenges
In recent years, manufacturers worldwide have faced supply chain disruptions and tariff-related cost challenges. Many companies that rely heavily on overseas production were hit hardest, experiencing long delays, unpredictable pricing, and shortages that impacted their customers.
Leader Tech has stood apart in this environment because of our commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing. By keeping our production in Tampa, Florida, we have avoided many of the issues tied to international supply chains. Our customers benefit from shorter lead times, reduced risk, and a level of certainty that is difficult to find in a globalized, tariff-sensitive marketplace.
This isn’t to say the challenges don’t affect us—they do. Tariff increases and global instability influence raw material costs across the board. However, our domestic production model allows us to absorb, adapt, and manage these pressures more effectively. Instead of passing along unpredictable wait times or extreme cost fluctuations, we work with our customers to plan, forecast, and deliver consistent results.
In a world where uncertainty is becoming the norm, our customers value the stability and reliability that comes with “Made in the USA.”
Why U.S.-Based Manufacturing Matters More Than Ever
The decision to produce in Tampa was about quality in 1984, and today, it’s about much more than that. Domestic manufacturing strengthens the supply chain, reduces vulnerability to global tariffs, and allows closer collaboration with customers.
For example:
- Faster turnaround: With engineering and production under one roof, prototyping and custom orders are completed faster than if they had to cross oceans.
- Greater flexibility: Engineers can request modifications and receive them without long delays.
- Security and compliance: Many industries—particularly defense and aerospace—require U.S.-made products. Our Tampa facility ensures compliance with these standards.
- Supporting American jobs: Every product line expansion has meant hiring more people locally, strengthening both Leader Tech and the Tampa community.
Innovation That Looks Ahead
Leader Tech’s growth has always been tied to the future. From our early CBS products to our newest thermal management offerings, we constantly adapt to the needs of technology. Whether it’s 5G and wireless communication, electric vehicles, medical equipment, or IoT devices, our shielding and thermal solutions keep critical electronics functioning reliably.
The next chapter will be no different. As electronics become smaller, faster, and more powerful, the challenges of EMI/RFI will continue to grow. At the same time, heat management will become more critical. Leader Tech is uniquely positioned to address these issues with our diverse product lines, in-house engineering, and a proven record of innovation.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
From two product lines in 1984 to 14 today, from 66 employees in 1999 to nearly 140 today, Leader Tech has grown steadily without losing sight of what matters most: quality, customer satisfaction, and U.S.-based production.
We are proud of our past, but even more excited about the future. As global supply chains face increasing pressures, we remain a stable, reliable partner for companies that demand high-quality EMI and thermal solutions. For four decades, our products have been made in the U.S., and we remain committed to delivering the same reliability for the decades to come.
