In modern electronics, reliability depends not only on performance but also on protection. As devices grow smaller, faster, and more interconnected, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) have become unavoidable challenges in design. Across industries—from electric vehicles to aerospace—engineers need shielding materials that can adapt to complex environments without sacrificing mechanical integrity or manufacturability.

At the intersection of innovation and American craftsmanship stands Leader Tech’s TechMESH Series, a collection of knitted-wire shielding products built for flexibility, strength, and consistent EMI/RFI attenuation. Proudly manufactured in the United States, TechMESH represents the reliability and precision that have long defined American engineering.

The TechMESH Series: A Family of High-Performance Shielding Products

TechMESH isn’t a single product—it’s an integrated series of knitted-wire shielding materials that serve different mechanical and electrical functions. Each variant is designed to meet unique enclosure or cable requirements while delivering exceptional shielding effectiveness and durability.

Leader Tech currently offers five primary variations within the TechMESH family:

  1. TechMESH Knitted Wire Gaskets
  2. TechMESH Elastomer Core Wire
  3. TechMESH Combo Strip & Gaskets
  4. TechMESH Tape
  5. TechMESH Mesh Washers

Together, they form one of the most versatile EMI/RFI shielding lines in American manufacturing, balancing attenuation, flexibility, and environmental sealing across countless applications.

TechMESHKnitted Wire Gaskets

TechMESH Knitted Wire Gaskets are the foundation of the series. Constructed from interlocking loops of conductive wire, these all-metal gaskets act like miniature springs, providing both resilience and electrical continuity under compression.

They are available in rectangular, round, round-with-fin, and double-round-with-fin cross-sections, with options for either all-mesh or elastomer-core configurations. This allows engineers to select the ideal balance of conductivity and mechanical compliance.

Material choices include:

  • Tin-plated copper-clad steel
  • Monel
  • Aluminum (Alloy 5056)

Depending on configuration, TechMESH Knitted Wire provides up to 130 dB of shielding in the E-Field and up to 80 dB in the H-Field, making it suitable for high-frequency or mixed-signal environments. The material is commonly supplied on 25-foot spools or custom-cut lengths, enabling seamless integration into enclosures, panels, or frame gaskets.

TechMESH Elastomer Core Wire

When reduced compression force and long-term resilience are required, TechMESH Elastomer Core Wire combines the conductivity of knitted metal mesh with the flexibility of an elastomeric core. The result is a gasket that delivers consistent EMI/RFI shielding while maintaining uniform contact pressure and recovery through repeated compression cycles, vibration, or thermal expansion.

Each profile consists of Monel or Tin-plated copper-clad steel wire formed over Neoprene Sponge, Silicone Sponge, or Silicone Solid elastomers. Four cross-sectional shapes are available:

  • Solid Round
  • Hollow Round
  • Rectangular
  • P-Bulb
  • These materials withstand temperatures from –103 °F to 500 °F (–75 °C to 260 °C), offering long-term stability and compression recovery in demanding environments. However, because tin melts at approximately 450 °F, the Tin-plated copper-clad steel version should be used within moderate temperature ranges, while Monel remains the preferred choice for higher-temperature or continuous-duty applications. For engineers designing equipment exposed to vibration or dynamic loads, this variation provides the ideal balance of shielding performance, flexibility, and mechanical durability.

TechMESHCombo Strip & Gaskets

The TechMESH Combo Strip & Gasket line extends the knitted-wire concept by bonding it directly to an elastomer base. These hybrid materials provide both EMI/RFI shielding and environmental sealing in a single component, reducing assembly steps and improving system integrity.

Constructed from Monel or Tin-plated copper-clad steel mesh bonded to Neoprene, Silicone Sponge, or Silicone Solid elastomers, Combo Strips deliver up to 125 dB shielding in the E-Field and 80 dB in the H-Field. Optional pressure-sensitive adhesive backings simplify installation during enclosure assembly or retrofit work.

Leader Tech can fabricate these gaskets in standard or fully custom configurations, including frame gaskets tailored to customer specifications. Their durability and adaptability make them ideal for mission-critical equipment where EMI and environmental protection must work together. Additionally, compression stops can be integrated into the environmental seal of the gasket, preventing over-compression and ensuring reliable long-term performance in repeated assembly conditions.

TechMESHTape

For retrofit applications and cable assemblies, TechMESH Tape provides lightweight, flexible shielding and grounding in areas where braided shields or fixed gaskets can’t be used. The tape consists of a double-layer knitted-wire mesh, 0.020 inches thick, available in:

  • Tin-plated copper-clad steel (-71)
  • Monel (-72)

With 10–12 openings per inch, the knitted structure conforms easily to irregular surfaces, maintaining continuous conductivity without wrinkling. TechMESH Tape is supplied in 50-foot rolls and commonly used in cable bundles, repair operations, and grounding applications for static discharge.

Because it can be applied after assembly, TechMESH Tape is a valuable tool for retrofitting EMI protection into finished systems without costly redesigns.

TechMESHMesh Washers

When compact EMI shielding and reliable grounding are required, TechMESH Mesh Washers provide precision performance in circular and confined geometries. Constructed from knitted metal wire, these washers deliver stable electrical contact and effective EMI/RFI suppression for connectors, antenna seals, gland rings, and grounding points.

Available in SnCuFe (tin-plated copper-clad steel)Monel, or 5056 Aluminum, each material offers distinct advantages—SnCuFe excels in magnetic-field attenuation, Monel combines corrosion resistance with tensile strength, and Aluminum ensures compatibility with aluminum housings.

Mesh Washers can be ordered to specific inner and outer diameters and come in standard thicknesses from 0.032″ to 0.250″, ensuring precise fit and dependable grounding performance. Although they do not provide environmental sealing, their open-knit structure offers excellent conductivity and durability under thermal or mechanical stress.

For engineers seeking efficient EMI control in lightweight assemblies, TechMESH Mesh Washers extend the series’ versatility while maintaining the precision and reliability of U.S.-made shielding technology.
